How To Turn Your Old Trousers Into Skirts In 15 Minutes Or Less

Transforming pants into a skirt couldn’t be easier! After this tutorial you may think twice before throwing away your trousers. You could save yourself a lot of money by just transforming them into a modest skirt. The same method can be applied to jumpsuits – however, the result will be a dress!

Below will guide you into how you can achieve this. What you will need:
  • A sewing machine/Needle and thread
  • A seam ripper
  • Pants/Trousers (Preferably loose pants so your skirt isn’t tight)
  • Scissors
  • Chalk
Step 1: Turn your pants/trousers inside out.
Step 2: You will see the stitching on the inside part of the leg.
Step 3: Take your seam ripper and remove the thread from the INSIDE part of the leg.
Step 4: Make sure remove the stitching on both inside legs.
Step 5: Once the stitching is removed, you will see that the (used to be) trousers is starting to look more like a skirt.
Step 6: Next, you’re going to position the trousers so the sections you have just un-seamed are on the outside.
Step 7: You should now see a lower case ‘L’ on both ends. Take your chalk and draw a straight line before the curve of the L to the bottom of the material.
Step 8: Do the same on the other side.

Now, let the the sewing begin!
  1. Use the straight stitch on your sewing machine and follow the line you have previously drawn out.
  2. If you’re not using a sewing machine, use your needle and thread and trace the line accordingly.
  3. Make sure you do the same on the other side…
Once both sides are sewn together, cut off any unwanted thread. Turn the material inside out again (the material should be correct facing). Your skirt is complete! Easy, right? If you’re more of a visual learner and would like to see a video tutorial click the link below:
